Since the Association announced the development of the tool last October, the topic has attracted strong interest from civil society. With today’s launch, the ASMP is rapidly implementing its commitments and translating them into tangible measures.

A simple tool to understand the origin of gold
The Swiss Precious Metals Transparency Platform, available at pm-transparency.swiss, allows users to easily and intuitively understand where the gold processed in Switzerland by ASMP members originates – without the need to consult complex import statistics. By simply selecting a country on a map, users can see how much gold comes from that region, its type (industrial, small-scale or recycled gold), and the supplier. The data currently available refers to 2024 and will be updated with 2025 figures during the first quarter of the year. The platform will be enhanced over time with additional features and will be updated annually with the latest data.
The website also includes explanatory sections designed to clarify how a sector, often perceived as complex and inaccessible, actually functions. «With this tool, we aim not only to make information more accessible – information that until now has been difficult to find, interpret or access – but also to foster dialogue with civil society. Transparency and dialogue are key elements in strengthening trust in our industry. The platform is based on high-quality data and, last but not least, will play an increasingly important role as a proactive verification and control tool”, says Christoph Wild, President of the Swiss Precious Metals Association.

Transparency and control
In addition to the public interface, the platform also includes a restricted section reserved for the Central Office for Precious Metals Control, which was involved in its development. The federal office will be able to access the data uploaded by individual Association members in disaggregated form and use it to support the inspections it already carries out on refineries.
Through the platform, the ASMP thus creates an innovative tool that provides the authorities with a structured and regularly updated data source, which can be used as a complement to existing control processes. The initiative therefore helps to strengthen the information system available to the authorities and to further consolidate the already high standards that characterize the Swiss precious metals sector.

A long-term commitment to Swiss leadership
The Swiss Precious Metals Transparency Platform was developed in collaboration with aXedras, a Swiss company specialising in digital solutions for the precious metals sector. The project is among the first of its kind worldwide and could well serve as a model for other industries with complex supply chains.
The launch of the platform is part of ASMP’s broader commitment to further strengthening transparency and oversight in Switzerland’s precious metals sector, including promoting an even more effective role for the Central Office for Precious Metals Control. With this initiative, the Association is delivering on its commitment to civil society and reaffirming Switzerland’s leadership as a global centre of excellence, quality and responsibility in the precious metals industry.

About ASMP – Founded in 1978, the Swiss Precious Metals Association (ASMP) brings together 16 companies engaged in the processing and trading of precious metals. The Swiss refining industry adheres to the guidelines of the London Bullion Market Association, the sector’s leading authority, as well as to OECD standards for the responsible sourcing of materials from conflict-affected and high-risk areas.
